Why Buhari Wants Adamawa Commissioner Replaced

Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, September 18, in Yola said that the women in Adamawa state had come to her to protest the appointment of a man as commissioner for women affairs in the state.
The appointment of Alhaji Aliyu Tola as the first male commissioner for women affairs recently in the state has sparked off debate with mostly the women condemning the development with others supporting it.
The state has four female commissioners. Fatima Atiku Abubakar is the commissioner for the ministry of health while Barrister Lilian Kayode heads the ministry of works.
Others are Victoria Sashi for the ministry of mineral resources and Kaleptawa Farauta as the commissioner for Education.
In a report by The Punch, Hajiya Buhari called on the state governor, Muhammed Bindow Jibrilla, during an inauguration of a free medical check-up for 2,000 women in the state under her pet project, the Aisha Buhari women health initiative to swap his male Adamawa commissioner for women affairs, Alhaji Aliyu Tola, with a woman.
The wife of the president appealed to the governor to appoint a woman in that office instead of Alhaji Tola.
She said: “The women are protesting. They asked me to pass their wishes to have a woman as their commissioner for women affairs.”
Sensing the complaining expression on the faces of the women beforehand, the newly appointed commissioner tactically uttered a few words before inviting the permanent secretary of the ministry, a woman, Hajiya Maisaratu Bello to address the gathering.
However, those in support of the appointment of the first male commissioner for women affairs stressed that since the full name of the ministry is ministry of women affairs and social development, it was opened for any gender to be the commissioner.
For those criticising the appointment, the position is meant to carry women along hence the need to make it exclusively for them.
In order to save cost and prevent abuse, President Buhari
It was learned that children and relations of the president, his aides and friends will also not have access to the planes except it is absolutely necessary.
